Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the worlds a sunny day, oh yeah
I got a nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama dont take my kodachrome away
~Paul SimonI thought I would add a little more. This was based on a photo from Micheal Yon of a little girl that got caught in a terrorist bombing. The US Soldiers were the target. The bombers waited until the children gathered around the soldiers and then set off the bombs. This US Major (and a father too) was rushing this little girl to an American field hospital for care. He would pause and talk to her... She did not survive.

Paint it Black!
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and theyre all painted black
~ Rolling Stones - Paint it Black!
I know a weird song to choose, in particular when you look at my images below. But of course there is a story.. Is'nt there always a story!?
It's been a while since I have posted anything. Life has indeed been busy, I have been working a lot of hours, my preparations for my class and teaching it. Things are going well in that regards.
Anyway, with all that has been going on the in the world in particular in Iraq, and with our soldiers. I thought I would share a few of my paintings that I have done this year. I am hoping to enter them into a gallery show next month.
First, a little bit of the story, in regards to 'black'. I was looking back at some of my images from a few years ago. There was a period, that I called my 'dark' years. My photographs and paintings were distinctly dark. I mean very dark. I used a lot of shadow and made sure my blacks were black. I still use shadow and darkness to reflect some emotion in the image, generally it no longer reflects my inner being.. The mood was somber, reflecting the inner darkness I was enveloped by.
Thankfully, those days seems to be on the wain and my life and attitude reflects more 'technicolor'.
With that said. Here are a few images. I based some of the primary colors on Native American meanings of colors. Pity you can't see the stroke details.

I'm a leaving on a jet plane!
kiss me and smile for me,
tell me that you'll wait for me,
hold me like you'll never let me go.
'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane,
don't know when I'll be back again.
Oh, babe, I hate to go.~ Leaving On A Jet Plane Lyrics
Well it's been a long time since I have posted anything, a lot has been going
on in my life. It's hard to believe that at the end of the
month it will be one year since I began my new life. Last month I made a visit back to my old stomping grounds. I would have thought I was going to feel something, but I did not. The sad fact of the matter is I felt like I had never been there, just dust in the wind. 15 years and nothing, now 1 year and everything. I feel very much at home where I am, I have made new friends, have started a whole new life. BTW I did find a new church too! But can you beleive it? One year!Time sure has flown by.
Speaking of flying, (how'z that for a segue?) shortly I will be boarding that big ol's jet liner and flying off to Kuwait! Yep you heard right Kuwait! bad part... 24 hours of flying time.. ugh... I try and limit detailed personal/ business things that I post on the internet, but I will say that I will be doing some work with pilots from the Kuwait Air Force. One guess as to what they fly?!?Anyway, I have 4 trips scheduled, if all goes well. Of course I will have my camera with me. The hope of course is I come back as well... as my camera.
Pray for safety, pray for success, and as always.. pray for our fighting men and women!

Eating Scraps from the Table...
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem suff'ring and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For world of lost sinners was slain.
I've been church hunting for the last couple of months, and needless to say it has been an eye opening experience. I have been to some good churches, a dying church, and let's say some churches that leave a lot to be desired.
My thoughts are about one church in particular...
OK I'll say it.. they are nothing more than whitewashed... well you know the quote...
There is one local (has 3 Sunday Services) 'mega-model' church a few miles from me. I decided to check it out. Hearing that it is a growing church with lots of activities and such. Side note: I figured the model of the church after I arrived.. well within moments...
Needless to say I was dismayed in what I saw.. as well as what I did NOT hear. The speaker.. I hesitate to call him a pastor.. was quoting mainly a particular 'mega' author, and only cracked open the Bible for a verse or two.. Basically it was about a 30-1 ratio, I kid you not. The worship service although very excellent in terms of technical muscianship and song quality, was to me a very contrived production. It was a concert for entertainment sake, not worship.. And perhaps second most disturbing.. to the lack of sound Biblical instruction.. was the disconnect of the people to each other AND to the vistors... Walking in to "Main Street" (their words), well let's say I've seen friendlier people at Walmart. Interaction between the attendees was virtually nothing, perhaps it was due to the fact that nearly 90% came into the service after it started?
In short, I would decribe start to finish, this 'church' as nothing more than a contrived production, that does nothing more than tickle the ears of the attendees. The Gospel is not preached, Jesus is relegated to a 3rd string bench warmer... To quote the ever almost famous FamLifeJack.. "Gaggeth Me"!
There is a bit of commentary on a 'game' by Joel Osteen on my friend Jack's blog.. I think this comment says it all...
"The truth, the hard truth of the gospel, has been replaced with media-friendly, insipid-smiling pitchmen (and women) like Olsteen, selling consumerism, sensate-appealing, feel-good-ism...to a culture that readily (and unwittingly because they know no better) laps it up like a dog eats treats from the table."
I would only say that the people lap it up SCRAPS not treats... from the table.
Amen and AMEN!

I'm Back...
Bryan Duncan
...It doesn't matter to me, hey!
I'm in the Caribbean
(I'm in no hurry, yeah)
Oh, in my Caribbean DreamPicture me just lyin' in the sun
Withthe radio on
If nothin' has to get done
Yeah, this reggae music is fun
Rhythm of the island
Need I say more????
Well I am back.. What a great cruise! 11 Days and Nights aboard the Disney Wonder... Great Fun, Great weather, great food.... and yes.. I think I gained a few lbs!
Did a bit of snorkeling, a lot of swimming and a REAL lot of sunning myself! Nice tan! Although I took only the little digi camera, I got some really great images that I am going to be painting from. I want to create a small gallery of Caribbean paintings, I beleive I got a few winners for sure.. Will post when I paint them.
Meanwhile, here are a few images to whet your appetite.

This is a shot on Castaway Cay.. Disney's private island.. Man what a great place!
I love visiting this island. I wish we could do it a couple times on the cruise. Snorkeling is great, water is warm and clear and the food is top notch...
A lot of things to do for sure.. Lay in the hammock.. eat.. sleep.. Oh wait.. Sail, Paraglide, Snorkel, Boat tours, bike, get massages in the cabana's.. oh man I am missing it already!
I really enjoy cruising for sure. Oh yeah... I met up with Phil on Barbado's.. He made sure I pronounced CAR-Ib-E-AN the right way.. NOT CARIB-BEE-ANN.. Ooops or was that the other way around??? Sorry Phil... But a great time getting a tour of the island.
I was greeted by 50 degrees and cold raw rain on my return to NY... THink it's time to move again.... NOT! Anyway, I miss the 90+ degree's, the sunshine and the warm water...
Sigh....

In a boat!
Yo ho (A Pirate's Life For Me) Lyrics
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We're beggars and blighters, ne'er-do-well cads,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
Aye, but we're loved by our mommies and dads,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
Swab the Decks!!! Flying to florida on Wednesday and then Sunday I will be out to sea for 11 nights. The scourge of the Caribbean!
The girls and I will be floating around visiting various Caribbean islands. St John, S
t Thomas, St Kitt and a few others.
But mostly I am excited about going to Barbados. I will be meeting up with a friend I have not seen in 20+ years.
That'll be Phil, me 'earties.. 'Ol Capt'n Phil and 'Me', met in Rhode Island at Zion Bible Institute. Cap' has been a pastor on the island for a long time now. Though I'll only have a few hours for the visit as our next port of call forces the ship to leave at 4:30, it'll be nice.I have booked some snorkeling excursions for swabby Beth and meself. Searching for that lost shaker of salt.. oops sorry... that's another song. I need to find a cheap underwater camera and get a few images to bring back. Did a lot of swimming and laps back at that 'ol landlubber hotel, (nearly 60 nights) so I am prepped for the water.
Going to travel as light as possible too.. that means no big camera, no laptop.. nada, nothing, a few days of clothes, me bloomers, me bermudas and meself... Won't that be a sight to see!
Yep, that photo is me doing my best Cap't Jack Sparrow imitation.
OK.. time to shove off, get packing and prepp'n...
Avast ye maties...

Homeless for 2 Hours
Pink Houses
Joun Cougar Mellencamp
Oh but aint that america for you and me
Aint that america were someting to see baby
Aint that america, home of the free
Little pink houses for you and meWell we finally closed on both houses Friday 8/25. 1 PM final closing on the Dundee house, 3 PM closed on our Endicott home.. since then I've been scrapping wallpaper, painting rooms and cleaning.

The house was a pig stye. Turns out even though it was supposed to be vacant the lady's teen kid was having parties every night! eeeewwwwwww!!!
Oh yeah we offically own the ugliest house on the street!
Saturday, I scrapped all the wallpaper off the living room walls, painted ceilings in the living and dining, and then painted the walls in the living room! I've posted some of the results in the living and dining rooms...I was a hurting puppy for sure, I had actually started my day at 5:30 am with 45 minutes of treadmill, and 20 minutes of laps in the motel swimming pool!
I then worked on the house pretty much non stop from 7:15 am until about 7:30 PM. Today was painting the Dining room, getting wallpaper and border off 2 bedrooms.
Needless to say I actually had to paint the livingroom 2x.. really 3x. Started with a light green on 2 walls, and it did not cover well (should have primed). I did not like the way it looked... I then decided to just paint over the walls with the darker accent green. Because of that I ran out of paint and got more.. well guess what.. wrong color, off by a couple shades and you could not see it until it dried. So off to Lowes got the replacement paint and painted again.Oh yeah dining room was painted 2x, plus 2x extra coats of paint.. The first can came back way to pink.. I thought it would darken.. but noooooooo... is too fem pink for my taste.. that's what I get for living with 3 women! So now it is a grey with plum undertones... a little better.. I can live with it... for now...
At least this house has 4 bathrooms! No worries about not finding one when in need!
After work on Monday, I finished some trim, painted the kitchen, and installed a bi-fold door. I am trying to get some big stuff done before the trucks arrive.
Furniture arrives Wednesday and THursday, so we will be out of this motel Friday. Been living in a motel for nearly 2 months now... granted having a swimming pool has been great as I am in it every morning doing laps after my cardio session, but it is wearing on the family living out of a suitcase.
But we only have 2 weeks to get settled as our 11 day cruise happens mid September.. nice timing huh? Pray that the hurricains stay away this time.
Work is going real well.. I've been handing a varied amount of projects. My standard duties are keeping track of the status' of all the projects we are doing, maintaining the overhead budget, workloads, asset inventories.. . My other projects are just as varied. I completed a brochure on a... let's just call it a Fuzz Buster on steroids for different types of military hardware. I am now shifting gears and working on a Users Guide for something that goes into the Apache Helicopter. I am now tasked to start working on a proposal for the Army.. thankfully my mentor will be guiding through that landmine filled path! ;)
Last Friday, Lockheed had it's annual Employee appreciation event.. about 12,000 people were there. From a mini circus, other stage entertainment, to bands, free food, icecream, cotten candy and softdrinks, games, inflatables and other stuff for the kids, tours of some of the newer helicopters (and hangers) including the presidental helicopter prototype. A final concert (too much disco!), then a major fireworks display.. It was quite an event and the weather was perfect!
Anyway, that's it in a nutshell. Here's a couple more views.. Oh yeah, that's my ZEN fountain on the right.... trickle trickle...

And God said to Noah.. "How long can you tread water for?"
Noah
by Bill Cosby
There's a fella by the name of Noah
Built an ark
Everybody knows he built an ark.
You see...
What Noah do? Well he built an ark
But very few people know about
The conversation that went on between the Lord and Noah
You see Noah was in his rec. room
Sawing away, he was making a few things for the home there.
He was a good carpenter...
Well after being stranded by the floods in Owego for 3 days, I got home
Friday afternoon. My normal straight drive home was a combination of
backroads, alterna
te roads and detours around detours.. but I made it!
I was PO'd getting stuck up there without my gear. Imagine that! No
weapon, no survival equipment, nada! Here it all was sitting in my
office at home! Thankfully I was stranded in comfort at the Residence
Inn. We were under a boil water alert, and I had no way to
boil... My water filtration unit was in my backpack.. with the rest of
my gear! AT HOME!!!! The roads were closed east and west of me, Only one bridge open to get back over the river, but again no way to head more than a few miles east or west.
A major life lesson.. I dodged the bullet this time, it could have been much worse. Thankfully Joe was just over the river.. only one bridge open BTW.. So I at least had some backup. Resturants were opened with limited menus and bottled water. I did make it to an open grocery store, to get myself some water and non perishable food in case I needed to bug out on foot.
Anyway, this just re-enforced my thoughts on NEVER.. I MEAN NEVER being
without my emergency gear, my personal protection gear etc...
It appears I will be moving into an area
that is more prone to flooding, etc. So I need to regroup my
preparations, so the entire family will be safe.
That's my duty...

Hello, Hello.. Week One is in the books...
Hello Goodbye
------The Beatles
You say yes, I say no.
You say stop and I say go go go, oh no.
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello hello
I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello
Hello hello
I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello.
Well, I surived my first week at LM.. barely! Talk about overwelming..I got sick on Thursday, basically from the commuting, lack of sleep (less than 3 hours per night), and a bug... The amount of information I took in was staggering.. overall though, I think I will be fitting in quite well. Everyday was jammed packed. New Hire orientation in the AM, then I did my compliance courses and organized stuff, then spent the rest of the day with my predicessor training on job specifics. Oh yeah tucked in was some whiteboard talks on electronic warfare, radar, and some other neat stuff. I feel as if my brains are leaking out of my ears!!!!
Oh yeah and now I am studying the book, Electronic Warfare 101...
The folks are great, the work environment is very professional.. and the food in the cafeteria is top notch! Come on give me a break, a g
uy needs to think about his stomach. Don't worry about me gaining weight though... I'll be getting signed up for the fitness center.. BTW it's open 24/7!!!
I already have my office space personalized, I'll be bringing in my lava
lamp in the AM to complete it!!! ... But I did find out yesterday that I was given the wrong space! I was supposed to be by the window.. Not sure now if I really want a window seat now.. will look at that in the morning when I get back in.
On the home front all seems to be going well. My house sold in 4 days as I have mentioned before... The offer I made on the new house was accepted, my loan is a go, so now it is a matter of coordinating the closing dates and the move. I have asked if the current owners will be interested in letting us move in early and rent from them. The commute is basically costing me $100 week in gas! I'm on the road for nearly 3 hours per day. It would be great if I can get into the house a few weeks early.. fingers crossed! If you were wondering what kind of stuff we do at LM... I could tell you but then I would have to kill you..
However, being the nice guy that I am, I will let you in on one project since the ribbon cutting is happening in the morning and it is known by the public...
The presidential helicopter is one project that is at our campus. I was amazed at how fast the new building went up. I am excited and hope to tour the facility on Monday, as once the day is done, the area becomes a security clearance of "Top Secret, Yankee, White" in other words, you will need a bac
kground check of your entire life, along with a major proctological exam of any little tidbit of your very being to get into that building. I'm still looking around for the lava filled moats, laser weapons, trolls, landmines, firebreathing dragons and Klingon security with phasers set to destroy.. in other words if you don't have clearance you are charred flesh!!!
If you were wondering what the Presidential helo is... well... this puppy is basically a flying Oval Office. the President can run the country from these babys! I forgot how many are going to be built but it will be quite a lot as they are stationed not only in the US but all over the world.
Read more about it at: http://www.teamus101.com/index.cfm
Totally cool and lots of possibilities of spin off's...
The hope here is to also land a contract for a new Search and Rescue Copter that would be built on a similar airframe.. major bucoup if it comes in...
Beleive it or not, I have spent a lot of the weekend on the computer researching, project managment, productivity, etc... Sending email notes to my work, so I can task out my week... Lot's of work to be done, lots of learning, but I am looking forward to the challenge.
So here's to the end of week one... hello week two!!!Helicopter images from publically released materials and press releases.

Ciao FLM... hello LM
Elton John
Friends Never Say Goodbye
There isn't much I haven't shared
With you along the road
And through it all there'd always be
Tomorrow's episode
Suddenly that isn't true
There's another avenue
Beckoning, the great divide...Well what can you say... 14+ years....
And today was the final day...
Thats right, I have worked more than 14 years... more than 1,680,000 minutes at FLM and I just completed my final one. I drove home, my final day of employ. To begin my new life the following Monday.
I have to say driving in today was rather melancholy for me. As now, my new trip beginning Monday will take me in a totally opposite direction. Different sites, different people, different places...
My ride for the last 14 years.
Since I leave the house at the same time each morning, I see a lot of sites and familiar faces on my way to FLM... At 7:35 I see the DSC Bus driver as he picks up kids near the Read Brick Inn.. We wave at each other... Next I wind my way up a small hill towards Crystal Valley, a couple of minutes and at this point as the road levels out for a stretch, there is an older Mennonite gentleman waiting for his ride. I've been passing by him for nearly 4 years now. I don't know his name, but his, is a familiar and welcome wave the mornings he is out there. Next at 7:40 or so, I am heading down the large hill overlooking Waneta lake, there coming up the hill are 4 Mennonite children in their little pony cart, with another child or 2 following on bicycles... Winter, Spring, Fall, rain, cold, they are heading to their one room school house. Generally I flash my lights as I approach them.. they smile and wave back.
Down into Wayne just a minute later I pass the Post office.. Well as Lydia use to call it when she first started to speak 12 years ago.. "PETES HOUSE PETES HOUSE!!".. Yep my friend Pete owns the house and rents part of the building to the P.O. Next, down the hill for the ride along Keuka lake, for about 10 minutes... by Hammondsport, tree lined, straight and smooth, then by the old twin prop passenger plane at the Curtiss Museum, up another hill.. At the top of the BIG hill across from the Hospital, is Harvest Baptist Church, this is a church 13 years ago I helped plant...I was not only a founding member, but the head Deacon for 6 years... what a wonderful work it was.. I had voted to name it "Down Hill Baptist Church" or "Over the Hill Baptist Church", but for some reason I was voted down on those names...sheesh, no sense of humor I guess... I do have fond memories of Pastor Jenks and the rest of the membership.
Generally just short of 8 AM, I am at the stop light by the old Dana Lyons School is the crossing guard who has been there for the last 10 years or so.. a couple more minutes or so down the road and a right turn by the gas stations, one of which had a gentleman who pumped the gas, sported the whitest beard, and he would dress like Santa during the Christmas Season, alas he passed on this year, right at the pumps.. Finally..just the usual final few miles along the river. Occasionally stopping to pick up Kevin as he walks briskly his 2 miles to work.. Finally, over the bridge and a left into the FLM parking lot at just about 5-10 minutes after 8..
I park and then walk into the building where I have spent the last 14+ years...
That's it... no more...
Ciao... FLM...
Next a big Hello.. LM
More thoughts to follow as my new adventure begins.

There were no defects to be found

MY SPIRITUAL JOURNEY
“I looked over the Jordan and what did I see... a band of Angels coming to carry me home... tell all my friends I’m coming too.”“Swing Low Sweet Chariot”, PAUL ROBESON
The Spiritual Seeds
My spiritual journey started and stopped for a while when I was in sixth grade… One of my school pals, Andrew C., had a brother who was “pretty religious”. Some how Andy hooked me up with his brother over the telephone one evening. During that time on the phone he told me about God’s plan for the ages and God’s plans for me. He sang some songs while playing his guitar into the phone. Later during that call he led me through the “Sinners Prayer”.
Looking back now this was my spiritual planting, as there was no one available to disciple me whereas I could grow spiritually. I was essentially left to flounder. And flounder I did for another 10 years.
The Watering... 10 years later...
When I was on the road as a photographer, one of the places
I had to go every two or three weeks was New York City. On one of these NYC outings I was in Laura B’s van helping her get gas for the drive back home. During this time she told me she was leaving PCA and was going to get a job somewhere else. I asked her why.Laura began to tell me how she got “Saved” and the road was not really the place for a Christian to be with all it’s trappings and temptations. "She talked about serving God". Laura then told me she would be in Boston working her final promotion and she asked me to visit her for lunch and a conversation. Since I had that week off I decided to visit her.
The following week or so during our lunch she told be about this "Savior" named Jesus and how she had a personal relationship with Him. Upon the conclusion of lunch and our time together, she handed me a couple of tracts and a book of John. As I left I said, "That's nice." and tucked away those gifts, I did not look at them for a long time.
...and then came the Harvest
Well this was the last time I saw Laura for a couple of years. However, 'fate' would cross our paths again, we would eventually be working together in Braintree, MA. at a PCA Portrait Studio located in one of the upper scale malls. She came back to the photo company but this time in fixed studios.. no more travel. Laura managed the studio, I was the photographer.
Upon my arrival to the studio, Laura started asking me to go to church with her. Well of course I said "NO WAY!" I don't need no steenk'n church! "Don need no Jeezuz"... However, she was pretty consistent, (insistant too) asking me every week. I'm not sure how long she continued to ask me, but one day, I finally said "Yes."
It was all planned out for that Sunday. I was going to drive to Providence RI to her house. Have breakfast and then we would drive to Johnson RI to Trinity. So here we were.. myself, Laura and Nicky (her son).. We were traveling on route 6a which goes from Providence to the CT border (then it merges with route 6).. During the drive I kept saying, I've been on thi
s road before.. For some reason inside me I felt something very familiar, what was it? But I know I had never been on this section of route 6a before...
Well we got to where route 295 crosses over route 6a. All of a sudden I said.. "This isn't that funky umbrella with the glass is it?"
She said.. "YES!"
I had arrived at Trinity.. and I was about to meet someone who would change my life forever!
..To be continued

Come Sail Away
(Dennis DeYoung)
I'm sailing away, set an open course for the virgin sea
I've got to be free, free to face the life that's ahead of me
On board, I'm the captain, so climb aboard
We'll search for tomorrow on every shore
And I'll try, oh Lord, I'll try to carry on
Friday May 12, I did it... I submitted my resignation to FLM. Sort of a melancholy feeling that day, as I have spent the last 14 years there… Consider that the very first day of my employ, I found out that I was going to be a daddy for the first time… and yes I am referencing my evil spawn child Lydia ;) I have learned much in the last decade plus, met many great people and call most, 'my family'. Alas, the winds of change are blowing and I have set sail for a new adventure. My anchor has been lifted and I have pointed my compass.. I am CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow!
Sorry I digress....
For the most part I am very excited now, much to do, as I prepare for the new job that begins June 5. Paperwork, faxing, urine tests, questions, questions, questions.
Now I prepare not only for the new job but a relocation to a new city. That means selling the old home and buying a new one. Much work to be done.
With that, I hope to blog a little and let people and friends know how things are going. So count this as my first real entry.
Cheers.
